Maryland Solar Incentives
Now’s the Time to Go Solar!
With electric prices soaring and federal and state incentives available, now is the time to invest in renewable energy. Although the biggest incentive is taking control of your long-term energy costs, the team at SunLion Energy Systems can help put together a financing and incentive package that will allow you to begin saving money right away.
Currently, homes and businesses are eligible to receive a FEDERAL TAX CREDIT of up to 30% of the installed system cost with no cap.
Actually, both solar and wind installations qualify to receive the 30% federal tax rebate on the installed cost of a system put in to service by 2016. Businesses can carry this tax rebate over 20 years. SunLion Energy Systems will provide the forms necessary to apply for this federal money and help fill out the paperwork.
Additionally, STATE GRANTS are available to help reduce your total investment by almost 50%.
Residential Solar Electric & Hot Water
Maryland’s Residential Clean Energy Grant Program, administered by the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA), provides financial incentives to homeowners that install MD solar-electric photovoltaic (PV) systemssolar water-heating systems. Both grid-connected and off-grid PV systems are eligible for support. The current Solar Energy Grant Program provides incentives as follows: Solar Water Heating (excluding pool & hot tub) is the lesser of $500 or 20% of the installed cost; Solar PV is $1,000 per system/household for systems of less than 20 kilowatts (kW). Note that these grants may be subtracted from adjusted gross income for state income tax purposes. In other words, program recipients do not have to pay state taxes on the amount of the grant received. Learn More
Commercial Solar Electric & Hot Water
The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) is offering grants for mid-sized photovoltaic (PV) systems and solar water heating systems (SWH) installed by businesses, non-profits and local governments. Incentives are set at $500 per kilowatt (kW) up to $50,000 for PV systems and 15% of installed cost up to $1,000 for SWH systems. In order to qualify for funding, PV projects must be less than 200 kW in size, although incentives limited to the first 100 kW of installed capacity. Solar hot water systems must have a collector area of at least 100 square feet. Learn More
