Grid-tied solar electric and wind generation systems produce electricity so you use less from the electric utility grid. This reduces or eliminates the need to purchase power from your energy provider. In fact, when the system is producing more energy than is being consumed, your electric meter will actually spin backwards and send energy “back” into the grid.
Living with a grid-connected renewable energy system is similar to living with grid power, except that some or all of the electricity you use comes from the sun or from the wind. In most cases, your energy provider will credit your account for excess electricity through a process called Net Metering.
